When a member of our team comes from a family of Champagne producers it would be foolish not to take up the opportunity to try a glass of the world’s favourite tipple, and when we did we just knew that we had to share it with our customers. So with that in mind we would like to introduce you to the newest product on Quarter Bar & Lounge’s shelves and pop the cork on Jacky Martin Champagne.
Jacky Martin – the man behind the wine – comes from a family of winegrowers with the trade being handed down from generation to generation. Over 30 years ago Jacky established his first vineyard in small town of Janvry, located in the “Montagne de Reims”, one of the four champagne areas; with the first bottles going on sale in France just 6 years later in 1990. They are now five types of champagne under his name.
However it wasn’t until 2016 that this brand of fizz made it across the Channel – an enterprise started up by our very own Helene Janson, so let’s hear what she has to say.
‘My family has always drank the Champagne Jacky Martin. We (Champenois) would open a bottle of champagne for any occasion but I have recently realised it isn’t the case for French people coming from other regions. I am proud to be from champagne, so much so that I had the idea of importing the brand to the UK. Although it was much harder than I thought it would be – I seemed to be a unique case – but I finally sold the first bottle of Jacky Martin Champagne in the UK in September 2016.’
‘I can tell you the composition of each type of champagne from the brand. Supermarkets never explain the composition of the Champagne and that’s the reason why customers buy famous brands – so not to go wrong – I would like people to stop thinking that famous brand names are safe. There are so many champagne brands and so many are as good as a renowned brand. The following elements make a good Champagne; vintage, terroir, grapes – look out for those.’
What should you expect from the Champagne?
The Brut Reserve is a blend of three grapes in equal measure – Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay – which gives it a great character to this Champagne. The Pinot Meunier brings a touch of fruitiness, the Pinot Noir brings strength and the Chardonnay bring a delicateness to this champagne. It is delicious!
Jacky Martin Champagne is exclusively available via A La Francaise and can be sampled at Quarter Bar and Lounge.
