October 2019 – Southwark’s award-winning independent property – London Bridge Hotel – is once again opening its doors to the Borough’s artists and artisans with London Bridge Hotel: OPEN 3. This will be the third time that the property, in partnership with Team London Bridge and Southwark Council, has provided a platform to display – and market – the offerings of the local artistic community living and working in London’s most historic area. London Bridge Hotel: OPEN 3 will run for five months from January – May 2020 with the theme this year of URBAN NATURE. The selected exhibitors will be invited to the official launch event and will be featured in a PR & social media campaign. This initiative has so far featured over 30 artists and exhibited around 60 artworks. Previous entrants have come from a huge range of disciplines including ceramics, painting, metal sculpture, printmaking and more.
Why URBAN NATURE? London Bridge is an urban metropolis where nature is making a comeback – parks, corners and streets are once more becoming vibrant pockets of colour and habitats for ecology to thrive. Seeing nature re-emerging in the heart of the city has inspired the theme of Urban Nature and the organisers would like to hear from artists that have been similarly inspired by their environment.
Says General Manager, Julio Marques:”When I first approached Team London Bridge with the idea for the art exhibition, I had no idea how popular it would be. I continue to be overwhelmed with the wealth of talent that can be found here in Southwark. We were looking for a way of celebrating our 21st anniversary and giving back to a loyal community that has supported us through thick and thin over two decades.
“This subsequent art initiative has proved especially popular with locals, business and guests and I’m proud to offer a more residential setting to display the work of these talented artists and to help raise their profile.”
The selection team is looking for current works which can be displayed on walls, window sills and hallways in this historic hotel with a contemporary decor. The call for entrants is open until midnight on Friday 6th December 2019 and interested parties should submit their work to https://zealous.co – there’s no fee payable:
- A digital photograph of the work (2mb or less)
- The title and dimensions of the work and any notes regarding its display.
- A one-page CV of the entrant including address, telephone, email, social media handles and current projects and exhibition history.
- Artists may submit up to two pieces of work.
- An 150 word description of the entrant and the work submitted.
- The price of the artwork(s).
The selection process will take place in January 2020, with installation mid-January and the launch event at the end of January.
